Speaking on post above me for example , i have liked The Gunslinger books for a long time. When they released the Dark Tower movie they made Roland black, played by Idris Elba. I was skeptical but Idris did a pretty good job. However did it seem like Roland to me, not really. Ive read these books for over a decade. It seemed like the movie was stand alone and not canon, ok. But then they made a choice that guarantees there probably wont be a sequel at the end. So what the fuck? I am all about diversity but sometimes when they fuck with established characters its not about what race or sexuality you switch to, its about changing the way fans perceive this character we have become so familiar with. One of the main things Roland is known for in the books is being tall and lanky and having washed out, crazy blue eyes. Killer eyes.

Same way it bugged me they didnt give Radcliffe green contacts in the Harry Potter movies. Harry is supposed to have green eyes like his mom, its his most defining feature. Otherwise the casting of the main 3 was excellent. Is that stupid and trivial, maybe. I cant help thinking that though.

To other Dark Tower fans. What if they made Detta Walker white? All this lore we have about the characters goes out the window, we have to get to know them again. The history is gone. Id be just as annoyed if they made Barret white for no reason in FF7R, or Drizzt DoUrden a surface elf instead of a dark elf. Or god forbid a fucking human.

When it came out Dumbledore was gay as an example, i didnt give a fuck becsuse it didnt change his character to me. I dont know if i have a video game character to relate. I will choose Squall from FF8. Would i mind if he was gay, yes, because hes in love with a woman named Rinoa and thats the way i like it. If him and Zell suddenly started flirting and hooking up, it would be confusing. Or Cloud giving Barret a bj, i dont wana see that shit. I wanna see Cloud macking on Tifa or Aeris the way it was 20 years ago.
