The death penalty doesn't keep the general public any safer from murderers than plain old life in prison does. COs have to deal with their dangerous asses. Also its not no body has ever escaped before. There is literally a inmate in North carolina that is so good at escape they keep him locked down 23 hours a day and check on him every hour (waking him up if asleep as he used a dummy in a bed to escape one) to make sure hes still there.
