If they said "OK 6 months", would people suddenly be ok with it? I know they wouldn't because these protesters think we should have just washed our hands for a few weeks and got back to normal. The truth is no one does really know, so there isn't a hard date on anything. It's a day-to-day situation, but I guess people should just start making up dates so idiots stop being paranoid? This is a once-in-a-lifetime global event featuring a disease we never saw before. Certainty is not something anyone has a surplus of right now.

To an extent, yes. I think saying 6 months would have probably generated some protests as well. I think if they had said 6 weeks you probably wouldn't see many protests. There were a few protests before, but it they didn't really start up until the end date kept getting pushed out and you have officials on TV talking about 18+ months in combination with perceived punishment from politicians on the left. The whole deal was to "flatten the curve" not eradicate the virus, there is no realistic version of a lockdown that would do that.

I wish you wouldn't label people you disagree with as idiots. It's inherently divisive and really doesn't do anything to help the situation and it just further galvanizes their beliefs by decreasing the likelihood that they would listen to anything you say. People aren't going to consider anything you suggest after you insulted them. It's really counterproductive.
