Someone once pointed out that odds are the main reason Disney is doing the remakes is so that they can retain copyright and trademark on characters who would otherwise lapse into public domain by presenting them in a different context. If true, it explains a lot of things about why those movies are the way they are.

While true, it ignores the fact that it doesnt change the copyright expiring on the original version. Im not saying the idea is wrong, Im saying that Disney is doing this but ultimately will lose in court in the end. But with Disney being Disney, they have money up the wazoo to litigate anyone into the poorhouse for the rest of their life!
