IIRC, seawater is on average 3.5% salinity. That's a lot less extreme that pure salt, let alone eating it.

The reason salt kills slugs is because the astringency of it basically destroys their cell membranes. Clams are resistant to that so they can eat salt just fine.

That said, 99% of a clam diet is literally shit. I don't know if eating salt is actually good for them.
