The sequel to 2004s animated hit Incredibles, about a family with superpowers, puts a woman supermom Elastigirl in the spotlight. Her husband stays home while she jets off to save the world. Shes a total badass. Unfortunately, the world is fixated on her thicc ass instead. Since the film hit theaters on Friday, social-media users have flooded Twitter and Instagram with memes of Elastigirls juicy behind. Theyve overlaid stills of her hourglass figure with wisecracks to the tune of: The real reason your man wants to see Incredibles 2, or Elastigirl been thick since 2004. Even New Yorker critic Anthony Lane brought up the heros body in his review. Beholding her outfit as tight as a second skin he compares her to Anastasia Steele from Fifty Shades of Grey and envisions a male theatergoers physiological response: Daddy just rested his cooling soda firmly in his lap and, like Mr. Incredible, tried very hard to think of algebra. Seriously, guys? Youre slobbering over a childrens cartoon character? She may be shaped like Kim Kardashian and coated in latex (also, often, like Kim Kardashian), but shes still a cartoon. Its worth noting that the films animation team is almost entirely male. That would explain why Helen Parr, Elastigirls non-superhero self, wears baggy clothes just your run-of-the-mill mom. But when she slides on her superhero get-up, shes all curves. Its almost as if Elastigirl gets her powers from her feminine figure. What woman would sign off on that? The design team may have objectified her, but the writers didnt: Elastigirl is courageous, cunning and competent. And, men of the internet, you shouldnt, either. Elastigirl may be imaginary, but real girls and women are reading your gross comments. And were not impressed.
