Round 2 Ori and the Blind Forest vs. Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Moltars Analysis

Ori and the Blind Forest
Round 1 51.91% vs. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Round 1 66.66% vs. South Park: The Stick of Truth

Well, this is FEs last chance to impress someone in this contest. Ori surprised many with its win last round, but that was just because Dragon Age was weaker than we thought. Ori shouldnt be all that strong, but if Three Houses cant look good against it, then its screwed against Xenoblade.

Im going to follow the trend and say FE underperforms yet again.

Moltars Bracket: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Moltars Prediction: Fire Emblem: Three Houses 62%

transiences Analysis

Ori is in round 2! How good is Ori? Has it graduated to 'upper tier indie' status or did it just take advantage of a game that has lost its audience completely?

I adore Ori, but I'm a little skeptical that it's up there with Hollow Knight or Cuphead. Will of the Wisps has elevated it to a legitimate franchise but those games had a real bandwagon behind them for various reasons. Ori looks real nice and is a great successor to the metroidvanias of the world, but I'm not sure if it's better than Stick of Truth. It probably is? Dragon Age Inquisition should be better than Stick of Truth, theoretically. It's going to get beat by Three Houses, but by how much?

transience's prediction: Fire Emblem: Three Houses with 59.99%

Leonharts Analysis

Ori and the Blind Forest scored perhaps the biggest upset of round 1, taking down a big name and GOTY runner-up (albeit a distant second to Smash 4!) in Dragon Age. While Fire Emblem as a whole has been a little underwhelming so far, Three Houses should still be out of Oris league. I dont know what it needs to get here to look good going into its showdown with Xenoblade because Im not sure who Id pick between Ori and Overwatch. If Ori can beat Dragon Age, it could theoretically beat Overwatch, too. I would also enjoy a scenario where South Park is the third strongest game in this eightpack! I figure as long as it doesnt undershoot Xenoblade by a ton, I wont worry about itmuch.

Leonharts Vote: Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Leonharts Prediction: Fire Emblem: Three Houses with 67.87%

Kleenexs Analysis

Ori had one of the best upsets of the round against Dragon Age, and its possible it might carry some momentum into this match, but Fire Emblem is probably a few steps too many up the rung for Ori to pull off the double upset. Im not actually all that high on how Fire Emblem did last round given how low my respect is for Stick of Truth, especially seeing Awakening losing handily to Bloodborne (rally aside), but it should still be fine. Its going to have to recover from last rounds disappointing numbers if it wants to have a shot against Xenoblade, though. (Unless Xenoblade bombs, in which case, disregard. Just like you should be disregarding all my writeups.)

Kleenexs Prediction: Fire Emblem: Three Houses with 60.25%

Guests Analysis Hbthebattle

Three Houses did not look that good in its win, but that shouldn't matter too much here. Ori probably isn't that much stronger than the Stick of Truth, so this won't be the game that pulls the upset. However, the question remains: can Three Houses impress enough here to stand a chance versus Xenoblade? I kinda doubt it.
