But there are things that distinguish them from the strains of conservatism that have typically defined right-wing politicians in the US and UK In comparison to a generic Republican, the alt-right is: - more explicit about their racist and ethnonationalist beliefs, though sometimes layering this under irony rather than the usual dogwhistles - younger, more online, and more conversant in memes - less committed to the idea of free markets and capitalism, and willing to criticize the ways in which unchecked capitalism undermines the nation or traditional societal structures - less motivated by religion, though rarely are they any less Islamophobic or homophobic - more anti-Semitic - no particular interest in "small government" --- kin to all that throbs ...
