If Smash can get 83% on Tekken, then high-70s should be good for Odyssey. Sprinkle in a few extra percent since strong games are overperforming this round and... Moltars Bracket: Super Mario Odyssey Moltars Prediction: Super Mario Odyssey 80% ____________________________________________________________________________ transiences Analysis I guess this match is as good a place as any to say that I am on board the Super Mario Odyssey train. My bracket has it over Smash Ultimate, and I'd be excited about that pick if people weren't bracket voting like hell in every match. With so many brackets and so few votes, you almost have to get a 55%ish win to overcome the brackets. I don't need to go into that for another month or so but I just want to get it out there. Odyssey has a tougher match than Ultimate here, both because MK11 is a more popular game than Tekken 7 and because it doesn't get to exert any kind of fighting game overlap that Smash might be doing today. I went the highest on Smash today even despite thinking Odyssey might be able to beat it. MK11 sold a ton and had a really great story mode that is worth youtubing for any lapsed MK fan. Odyssey should put some screws into it but I don't think it can cross 80%. transience's prediction: Super Mario Odyssey with 78.53% ____________________________________________________________________________ Leonharts Analysis This division is bookended with the two most popular non-Zelda Switch games beating up on the most recent fighting game entries in series this site doesnt care much about. I think this will actually be a good litmus test for Odyssey to see how it compares to Smash Ultimate. If it can come near to matching its percentage, I might be willing to entertain it having a shot (before we see how the SFF plays out anyway!) because I would take Mortal Kombat over Tekken any day of the week here. Sub-Zero and Scorpion have been solid midcarders here from the beginning, while the few Tekken characters weve seen in the contests have always done poorly (although the one Tekken character we really need is King imhotbqh). I feel like people will go high here for Odyssey, but we tend to overestimate Mario and underestimate Mortal Kombat (although I dont think 11 will be worth much. Shouldve been 9!). It's obviously going to win this match - Mortal Kombat has no shot - but I don't have a good read on Odyssey, given the only 'real' polls its been in, it was hidden behind Breath of the Wild. Surely it's not going to be as strong as 3/World/64, but I could definitely see it being Galaxy level or better. Which isn't a world-beater or anything, but certainly enough to stomp the bottom half of this division before being eaten alive by Smash. Super Mario Odyssey has its path so firmly set, but yet there are those believing it could trouble Ultimate, despite Ultimate being a bigger release than the last few Smash games and Mario games not really contesting the Smash of their console since N64. So I guess maybe this match can be used to compare it. Ultimate is actually facing a similar game in Tekken, but I'd expect Mortal Kombat to be stronger than. It always has. So I guess Odyssey would have to perform better or at least just as good as Ultimate for it to be worth mentioning? Well, I think it'll look fine, but I don't think it'll do better. Mortal Kombat is probably just barely respected enough to not fold completely, and so I believe Odyssey will be just short of 80%, but my jaw wouldn't drop if it cracked it either.
