IIRC the director for that episode got fired mid-shoot because he was so racistI looked up the episode and learned that Garret Wang credits the episode for getting him the role of Harry Kim. It was so bad that it led to him never watching and becoming a fan of TNG. He was thus able to audition for Voyager without feeling nervous. Had that happened, they might have actually killed off Harry Kim the way they were planning to before Wang was put on People's sexiest people alive list. Had that happened, they might have kept the far more interesting Kes. Had that happened, maybe her actress wouldn't have lost her mind.
