General guidelines, in roughly decreasing order of fuck-your-shit-up:

1. Don't have children until you can actually afford them
2. Don't get a neck or face tattoo
3. Don't drop out of high school
4. Avoid becoming addicted to drugs, especially illegal ones
5. Don't get a useless degree in college
6. You don't need superfluous luxury items like $200 shoes, a new car, that shiny new smartphone, cable TV, Netflix, videogame consoles, or even a $6 coffee.

These are good tips. Here are some other good things to live by.

- pack a lunch to work, cook your meals at home, and only eat out on special occasions like birthdays and holidays.
- don't gamble any of your money
- use public transportation or ride a bicycle
- if you absolutely need a car save up and buy one cash so you can pay for just liability insurance
- go to a community College right out of high school and work at the community college
- never eat fast food and avoid sugary drinks
- don't buy a motorcycle
- if you can, work locally or remote
- keep rent at a minimum, that means rent a room, have roommates etc.
- avoid alcohol, weed and all other drugs like the plague
- go to church
- live with your parents as long as you can

I think this is pretty good advice on how to survive, feel free to add more.
