So I guess you watch nothing fictional then?

I feel like I need to interject on this point. I always felt saying other works of performance art are fictional to downplay the fictional nature of pro wrestling isnt a 1:1 correlation. Generally other fictional works have a stronger relationship with the fourth wall. No one in those acknowledges that there exists a world beyond their own, save for a gag.

Pro wrestling, however, is assumed to exist in our world. They see the audience and acknowledge that they are on TV. Conversely, the audience is expected to believe the characters are actually who they are when theyre off-camera for the suspension of disbelief to be complete (whereas something else wouldnt need that because you can easily separate the actor from the character). So in order for pro wrestling to work, a stronger commitment to the illusion of reality is required on both sides than would be for a TV show elsewhere.
