Not really. YouTube fame is still a hell of a lot more niche than most people are willing to admit. And it's far more fickle than almost any other form of media.

Case in point - PewDiePie is inarguably one of the most famous YouTubers ever, yet in the course of your day, you will likely interact with far more people who have no clue who the hell he is than you will people who know anything more about him than the name.

Sure, that might not be the case if you're under the age of 20 and literally everyone you know is the same age, but that's still a fraction of the population.
Unless you're a 4th grade teacher, in which case, you interact with more people who know PewDiePie than you do with people who don't!
