The main Runescape is much more modernized but suffers from an overwhelmingly broken economy, microtransactions, and spammy pop up notifications. I'm not going to lie, nostalgia is probably the biggest reason I still play Old School Runescape. Both games are very grind based, but I enjoy the freedom and goal setting nature of it. The community is hit or miss but entertaining enough to participate in. You could definitely try it out, both Old School Runescape and the new Runescape are free to play.
