The tax rebates you get on your 401k contributions, use those to put into the Roth, not for a vacation or something stupid. If your employer offers a 401k, make that a priority, contribute just enough to get the maximum match amount. Get disability insurance and critical illness insurance, and also slowly save up 3-6 months worth of expenses so you wont need to dip into your Roth/401k in case of an emergency. Live below your means.
