I don't think authenticity has anything to do with the tactics of GOP. They will lie and exaggerate either way. They will, but the fact that Joe Biden is on-record over literally decades talking about cutting Social Security makes it really easy to cut a 30-second ad about how he's bad for seniors, and would also let Trump run as the candidate who will save Social Security.
