| Topic | Weekend Retreat for MEN who feel PRESSURED over being WHITE and MASCULINE!! |
| Full Throttle 01/12/20 9:43:12 PM #1: | Do you support the MALE STEREOTYPE who should be a provider and protector? Vote One of them is 40 y/o Lucas Krump whose tears run down his cheeks describe how he had moments of wanting to give up as he was tired of living up to the traditional male stereotype The dozen men who are all white range from 20 to 60s as the retreat helps men shrug off the armour of masculinity and get in touch with their true feelings. It's a sort of an "anti-Fight Club" For one wekend last month, 55 men opened up their weaknesses and insecurities at the chalet outside of Race Brook Lodge "Michael" said "I am sad. I am afraid" who wished how he could tell his family how he truly feels They have seen a surge in attendance reflecting a shift in attitudes and increased curiosity about what it means to be male, particularly Millennials as the growing debate of "toxic masculinity" fueld by the #MeToo movement Tom, who is struggling over a break up says he feels a lot of pain and a lot of sadness as fellow men look upon concern They share recent experiences as they take part in one on one workshops where they learn to deal with feelings of anxiety and anger Ryan Zagone, who's been there for half a year said "I grew up in Louisiana where the definition of a man is very narrow. Do you hunt or do you play football? And i didn't do either. I grew up feeling like an outsider. Coming here for the first time gave me role models of other ways to be as a man. How to be emotional in..a way that is powerful, loving, empathetic and at the same time strong" Michael Kimmel, a sociologist who specializes in masculinity says many american men today worry they are not doing as well as their father or grandfather and feel they are INFERIOR because they don't live up to the male stereotype of a provider and protector He said "We live in a society in which every other man is a potential competitor for jobs, money, success, power. So we dont look at each other as brothers, we look at each other as rivals." Owen Marcus helped structure these evryman's programs and it became popular in recent years as younger men are much more open to this Now the discussion for these young men is the #MeToo movement that brought a global reckoning on sexual misconduct by women and has now caused them to question their behaviour. Dan Doty, the co-founder says it's purpose is not to deal with toxic masculinity but that the issue is never too far way and it's not to shame their actions on how they treat women but to change their behaviour One of the other issues is some men feel being WHITE is a hindrance as they are always looked upon as privileged and racist as many of these men feel they aren't treated fairly in society where they describe the heartbreak of being labeled in that category But that's what the workshop is for says the founders. Evryman has a network of support for men feeling these various issues and the skill they're teaching is to learn to respect others and to process their feelings in a more positive way. It's not intended to replace therapy as many still see their therapist but it's to speak with other men who are having these issues. Sacha Lewis, the other co-founder says they want to help millions of men feeling this way to come join as a sense of movement is happening in the US Evryman is ONLY frequented by WHITE MEN as they are trying to attract more diverse people of every colour OR gender but women don't join for fear they will inhibit the men.
