He made those movies in his vision with his whole heart and soul. I wouldn't say GL made the other trilogies with merchandising being the absolute main reason why. Although I am sure it didn't bother him. The Disney trilogies, well, don't feel as if they were as loved and cared for as the other movies TBH.
