Technically it's how most drugs work since they all raise dopamine in your brain. I felt hyperactive and happy and pumped up when I took shrooms but that may have been a product of my general mood. Even more speculation than my post Hotel_Security posted... Yeah, these kind of "poison" you to an extent. That's when the good stuff happens but it can make you nauseus or fuck with your appetite. Most medication is harmful to other parts of your body. Also people are already in the routine of trying to solve depression with a poison called alcohol which actually works against their cause too.
