For the same reason we celebrate sweet 16s, baby showers, marriage, retirement parties, and birthdays in general. If you really want to question a celebration, why do we celebrate an anniversary of your birth? Is living a year really an accomplishment? How about a 21st birthday celebration? Celebrating being able to drink when you have likely already been doing it for years. From an anthropologic standpoint, celebrations are a way we connect with other humans. These are shared experiences that remind us we are not so different from each other.
