Sender: "I don't like topic"

What is the recipient of this message responding to? The sender, affixing the 'I' to themselves and predicating their dislike, or the expression of a universal 'I' that is singularized to denote the sender, in the next interaction?

Case A:
Sender: "I don't like topic"
Receiver: "You don't have to"

Case B:
Sender: "I don't like topic"
Receiver: [is put into the position of being the 'I' that doesn't like the topic]

Language is clearly flexible enough that any answer can probably cover both cases, but is one case more correct than the other?
