The problem being that most people are too hypocritical, egotistical and overall emotional to follow the law down to the letter, even if said law is fair. If the police and government loosen the restrictions imposed on the people as far as guns are concerned and they were even more easily attainable and gun owners had even more freedom, we'd have far too many vigilantes running around shooting injuring and murdering people, sometimes actual criminals sometimes completely innocent people, in the name of "justice". Things would probably get worse instead of better. We can't even trust the military and especially the police, supposedly trained professionals, to abide by the law, not abuse the power given to them by their position, hold themselves accountable and truthfully report when they make incredibly poor, fatal errors on the job.
