It's also weird that you think of it as the military taking advantage of vulnerable people. A lot of people who enlist do it to utilize the advantages that military service offers. Like paying for certifications and college, getting that valuable job experience, and having something that looks good to future employers. Or a whole career. Yes, and a lot of them do that because they lack options, or lack knowledge of options. It's no secret that the ASVAB is basically a brainlet filter, and low scores get sent straight to infantry.
