If I had taken that time off, my employer would have topped it up and it would be like getting paid at full wages for a year. I realized after 3 weeks with a newborn that was a stupid idea and let my wife take the entire time off to herself. By contrast my wife had zero paid time and literally just had to use up all her sick time and then anything more would be unpaid. --- Parent or parent-to-be?
