Huh, the way you described these two days is starting to make me wonder if the Friday following Thanksgiving is just a sort of Thanksgiving in itself. It is almost as if the food for this "Thanksgiving on a Friday" is the consumer goods that are highly discounted for this particular day, and the stores are the houses where the feasts for this "food" take place. As far as I know, one would typically overindulge on these holidays, be it on food or on gifts (or just "presents" for oneself). But I digress. Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what one has (depending on whom you ask, anyway), and the Friday after encourages the belief that one does not have enough stuff and needs to get more; even if it's not necessary, and some of these things are only bought because they are on sale. It's odd how very stark the contrasts between the ideals of these two days are and how close together they are on the calendar, even though the general traditions of them are a bit similar, depending on how one might interpret the Thanksgiving holiday. Or maybe, I'm just looking too much into it, and I'm basically talking nonsense. >_>
