With a pet you get a lot of the perks of having a close friend or raising/teaching a child but with considerably less investment, expense, etc.. then you would need with a human. At least imo.

You can certainly argue that they can be time consuming, expensive, and require some work.. but the same can be said for relationships in general.

Sometimes you just want to do you, work on you, whatever. I find that easier with pets. They're still gonna be there and you won't hurt their feelings much even if you're a selfish ass most of the time. All you really need to do is feed them and spend a little time with them most days.
