It would have been so easy for him to express his points without being a dick. Why couldn't he have just said something like "I can't imagine feeling that way about a parent after their death, but I haven't been through things like what you've described and I don't know what you've been through that you haven't even spoken of here, so I can't judge. Generally, I believe there are 2 sides to every story, but everyone's life is their own."
