I just also think he wasn't the grand mastermind behind most of the more hated aspects of that movie (namely, completely shitting on Luke) I find it awfully suspicious that every other non JJ Abrams film had massive interference while his film had absolutely not. Maybe the dude "wrote" it himself, but he wrote exactly what somebody wanted, I'm assuming Kathleen Kennedy. So maybe he deserves shit for not walking away like Trevorrow or getting shitcanned like Lord and Miller, but I really don't think he was the grand mastermind behind it all. He admits in the commentary that he was aiming to please KK.
