Nah, this is a bullshit, weaselly excuse. Most of the documents he took were related to foreign surveillance and cyber-warfare, not spying on US citizens. He then proceeded to flee to countries with far-worse human rights violations (but god knows you probably love the governments of China and Russia), and give them information in exchange for asylum.
Nothing weaselly about it. Using "traitorous" to describe someone's exposure of the actions of an imperialist country is nationalist and reactionary. Own it or don't use such terminology.
