writers of fiction decide what is and isn't canon because it's their intellectual property- they have the right to make those decisions, because they created those worlds and universes.

assuming god created our worlds and universes, we have to take someone else's word for it, because god won't do an AMA on reddit. that's not a lot different than someone saying fanfic is canon, because the creator will say "what the fuck? coldsteel the hedgeheg never fucked sonic", but god never said "what the fuck? jesus never killed kids"
