The problem has always been that news stations peddle low quality, junk news. In contrast, Trump's "fake news" mantra is based in the naked denial of fact. That's an entirely different kind of sickness-- one that Fox News is the modern progenitor of, and which Trump has helped fester. CNN's month-long campaign around the missing Malaysian airplane was ridiculous, but it wasn't 1984 Newspeak.
