Anyone have experience joining the military in the US at a late age? Is it a good idea to fix my NEETness?

I'm 28 who only worked 4 months total my whole life. Those 4 months obtained from an internship from school (dropped out) and a summer job with a family friend. Looking to change my life around and always thought about joining the military, but was always too afraid to commit.

Always thought about going job searching again, but the idea of being 28 with relatively no work experience was a turn off. I've gotten job referrals for place by my relatives, but turned it down because I was afraid the reaction from people on how a big of a lazy piece of shit I was. Shoot, I remember during training at a pizza place (got fired after 2nd day), a worker there looked at me different for not having a job before and I was 21 at the time. Imagine that reaction at 28?

I feel like the military will help turn my life around and get me to my destination within 1-2 years.
