People just got mad that Poe wasn't the hero, but that was the least of the problems with Poe. Holdo was a completely unnecessary character though. Everything she did could've been given to Admiral Ackbar instead. Then he would've at least gotten a heroic sacrifice rather than just getting sucked out into space.
