The RZA has made it clear numerous times that the film's main influence was Kill Bill, which also starred Lucy Liu. The RZA also directed an episode of Marvel's Iron Fist, which is in the same universe as Luke Cage. The creator of Luke Cage is a huge Wu-Tang fan; putting many references of them in the show, using a number of their songs and even having Ghostface Killah show up in an episode. Now who ends up directing the first episode of Luke Cage's second season? That's right; Lucy Liu! The RZA was also the man responsible for Afro Samurai's soundtrack and contributed heavily with the show in general. Lucy Liu ends up voicing the villain in Afro Samurai: Resurrection.
