Topic | Lok'n'spiel: Music Critique - or why CCR and the 80s sucked for rock in general |
Lokarin 10/18/19 2:11:50 PM #1: | Let's start with the anti-inspiration for this topic Kim Mitchell ~ All we Are Wow, what a cool synthy bassy intro... this is gunna go places! WTF? Shitty gospel? After the bridge it even has a holiday music upshift... good for Xmas, shit for rock ... Now, contrast that to another song with a strong intro It's internally consistent all the way throughout the song, even when the main theme isn't being played you can feel it, and you can even feel the lyrical progressive in the intro. Good song done right. . Now let's flip it around: We have the living pokemon Phil Collins and his shitty "SomethingIntheAirTonightOhLordomon" -No Link- It takes like 3 minutes for the song to actually start... that is a LOOOONG time to drag an intro with little pay off. ... What does this have to do with CCR? Proud Mary. Song sucks, brah... there aaaiiiiiiiin't no river people!!!! Generosity is dead. But - they bring it back with Have You Ever Seen the Rain... their only good song. ... But lok? That's turn of the decade 70s, what does that have to do with 80s rock? Well, everything!!!!!! Their style would go on to taint rock music until the mid 90s when pop punk finally killed it. Anytime you hear a power chord played on an acoustic... it's THEIR FAULT (and totally not Elvis :b) ... There are notable exceptions as synth rock was becoming popular, including this gem It's internally consistent and each of the movements follows the other nicely. And then there's one of my favs, ohGr... I mean, listen to this Metroid Prime ass song --- "Salt cures Everything!" My YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Nirakolov/videos ...
