You're claiming blue-screen-of-death-ridden Windows and computers/phones costing hundreds or thousands of dollars allowed billions of people to escape poverty? Don't play stupid. In fact, Apple took advantage of people in poverty by having their cheap workforce build them their products for a fraction of the price tag that they'd turn around and sell them for. This is the workforce that made the news due to how bad their working conditions were that the factory installed suicide nets to prevent workers from killing themselves. Cut the bullshit.

Those products have enabled billions to escape poverty because of the jobs and companies that have sprung forth as a direct result of those products existing.

Just like you said earlier, exceptions don't make the rule. You said earlier that rags to riches stories don't prove the general argument wrong. The same applies here. China having awful factories (though less awful than the 18 hours a day in the fields those workers had before) doesn't mean that my general argument is wrong.

Look at all the industries and software and economic activity that was created thanks to Bill Gates.
