It shows a disturbing amount of historical ignorance. "If you come here and work hard you can carve out a good life for yourself" is fundamentally American. "Anyone and everyone should come here and have the US Government should pay for everything they need!" has never been fundamentally American. There's no reason to pay any actual heed to it. It's a poem written by a poet, rife with idealistic symbolism.
