I disagree. We have plenty of people, I don't think it's too much to ask that if you are going to move here, you are able to contribute and pay for things yourself. It makes no sense to bring in people who need welfare.

A better question might be why nationalists like yourself think such a philosophy should be disregarded. It shows a disturbing amount of historical ignorance.


"If you come here and work hard you can carve out a good life for yourself" is fundamentally American. "Anyone and everyone should come here and have the US Government should pay for everything they need!" has never been fundamentally American.

There's no reason to pay any actual heed to it. It's a poem written by a poet, rife with idealistic symbolism. It's nice, but not reflective of reality.
