If he wasted 45 minutes, he wasted 45 minutes for the judge, the other 11 jurors and let's say 2 alternates, the court reporter, the clerk, the bailiff, the attorneys, the parties, and any witnesses for that day (let's say 5). That's 26 people right there. The economic damages are in the thousands of dollars.
