I reflexively tried to block it one time and it left a mark on my hand for a week. I also remember 3 times where my dad actually punched me in the face. I fought him one of those times and won. He acts nice and tries to joke around and befriend everyone he meets outside the house but at home he makes insulting remarks nonstop and the smallest things can make him angry.
