An ordinary guy walking into the wrong apartment and killing a non-cop would certainly get more than 10 years. I wouldn't be so sure. I actually know of a similar case a couple decades back in Iowa City. A college kid got drunk and went into the wrong apartment, then beat the elderly owner to death because he thought it was a burglar. I don't remember the exact sentence but it couldn't have been much more than 10 years, if it was even that much, because he was a guest speaker at my youth group and was in his 30s at the time. --- Maniac64 ...
