This was in 2001. He was older than I am now. It must have taken quite a while to put all of that on his face and hands. During that whole time, he never thought "this is a bad look"? Apparently not, because he's cheesing for the camera like it's such a cool thing.

The thing that gets me is that it takes no effort at all not to do brownface or blackface. He could have just worn a costume. The brownface isn't really even adding anything, other than creepiness. It actually takes significantly more effort to do it. So why do people feel this compulsion to wear any face?

Is it because skin color is extremely important to them and so they feel costumes are incomplete without it? Can't dress up as a black guy without black skin?


Hmm....the cynical part of me feels like he thought he could get away with it because he was portraying an Indian, not a black person. Back in 2001, only racism against black people got you in trouble. It's only recently people started paying attention to racism towards other races. >_>
