Paul in Romans says that the government has the power to "wield the sword," whether it be for capital punishment or for war. It's similar to how sometimes people use the whole "Eye for an eye" thing to discredit the Old Testament. "Eye for an eye" wasn't used to settle personal grudges. It was a legal principle for those in charge to follow when punishing those who break the law (and the basic idea is "The punishment must fit the crime"). --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
