They typically do the same damage per turn (or damage per second where applicable).

In Front Mission, the rapid fire special ability added more "pellets" to shotguns the sameway it added more rounds to a burst when using assault rifles.

Front Mission... 4? 5? The one with Elsa - tried to use type advantages. Rifles did Pierce damage and Shotguns Impact/blunt damage. This brings us to classic RPGs...

If you have 2 weapons that deal 1d6 damage, why take a club or a sword?
