Gay pride marches don't exist for straight people or to just say "look how gay we are"

If you think the people marching are proud of being gay more than anything else, you don't understand gay pride and you probably haven't even tried to.

The point is for gay people to see open positive acceptance of LGBT people and to realize that it's possible to be happy and gay. It also helps in making gay people more visible to straight people so it's harder for them to ignore us next time they're about to do or say something bigoted.

Pride exists as a way of explicitly rejecting the shame that has been systemically foisted on gay people for centuries. To turn around and say "well I don't care about your sexual orientation, you're a loser for being proud of it" is like turning your brain off because you're not willing to engage something on a real level that makes you uncomfortable.
