What if most women just aren't interested in stem? Kinda like how most aren't interested in security guard or manual labor? Or similar to how most men aren't interested in nursing or grade school teacher?

That doesn't really account for the fact that women used to be well-represented in computing historically. If it's an essentialist biological difference that makes them less interested, what happened the genome during the course of the last century to so radically change things?


There are a few factors you have to look at before defaulting to oppression as the answer.

Has society become more sexist towards women? Even after decades of feminism and affirmative action?

How has the job of computing changed since women were more represented in it?
