If you like the idea of a kid who becomes an adult superhero (but who is still basically a kid inside), you might also want to try and check out the Prime comics by Malibu (from the Ultraverse line, back in the early 90s).

Rights issues mean they might be hard to track down (Marvel bought the company years later, but it seems like they're never going to use any of the Ultraverse concepts because the contract and rights issues are draconian-ly complex and not even remotely worth it for them), but you might be able to find the old stories somewhere online if you look.

That was actually my least favorite thing about him. Why I liked him being made a teenager in new 52 and the movie rather than a 10 year old.

What i liked is hes a less OP superman (at least in terms of hes got a specific power set and never pulls a new power out his ass, and what he has set is still less abilities than what supes is typically known to have) but also minus the ridiculous weakness to a glowing green rock. Plus when it comes to magic ive always liked lightning based magic over the other elements normally. It just looks cooler imo.
