Since no one's really talking about the merits of Gen 6, I'll just say that the best thing about XY, which make them arguably the best Pokemon games imo, is the huge variety of catchable Pokemon throughout the game. I guess after 6 generations of these games they finally realized hey, there's a fuckton of these critters now, let's put a bunch of em in every area. Maybe this was a byproduct of having such a small crop of new pokeys, but it really made the games stand out in a big way for me. There were just so many options for cool Pokemon to use during the main story and I really liked that.

Gen 6 totally rekindled my interest in the series. Fairy-type was a blessing, as now you can catch all Pokemon everywhere. How about a Dragon-type before the second gym? Why not, it has weaknesses now! I had a team of 17 Pokemon I rotated through, loved them all, and loved most of my time with the game. It was just kinda hard to care about the story and the characters. It was peak pure Pokemon gameplay for me.

I mentioned it! Like you said, Gen VI is probably the first game where I barely used Repels, just because I could get excited about all the potential cool Pokmon I could find on each route. Don't have to worry about grinding either, cause XP Share makes rotation balance out!
