The 74 y/o offered her "heartfelt apologies for the pain and embarrassment"of her actions while she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Auburn University Audio recordings were uncoveredinthe skit which Kaye's then fiance, Ben LaRavis, can be heard describing her as having "black paint all over her face" She said she had no recollection of the 52 year old recording but doesn't deny it happened She said "While some may attempt to excuse this as acceptable behaviour for a college student during the mid-1960s, that is not who i am today, and it is not what my administration represents all these years later" She insists that all she can do is show that the "Alabama of today is a far cry from the Alabama of the 1960s" Ivey made headlines earlier this eyar after signing a controversial abortion bill that punishes doctors with prison if they performed the procedure. Ralph Northam was also embroiled in a blackface scandal as he admitted to wearing shoe polish on his face and was widely denounced by members of his own party and he apologized for appearing it.
