As soon as phones can replicate or at least come close to a console gaming experience, which they are as 5g just came out, aside from grassroots movements most of the modern consoles will die off. A phone is simply too handy, so the gaming industry is gonna have to pull out some striking vipers/sword art online tech in order to compete with the mobile market. With things like the oculus out its just to continue settling for traditional gaming, especially with how complicated modern console gaming is(seriously, I feel like I need to get certified in order to play some of these games) so a soft reset in the gaming industry needs to happen. We already saw that simple games like Pokmon go can get massive followings so it's definitely looking like we're heading more towards AR and VR gaming and moving away from console gaming.
