I actually haven't had a chance to play Enhanced Edition but Summoners were top notch in vanilla, try it if you haven't.

I started the game last night. Took forever to create a character and I did the small tutorial before you go up the ladder. Think I'm going to scrap current character and start over now that I have a feel for combat.

I really do love how detailed it all is.

For a first playthrough should I use one of the premade characters or a custom character?

pre-made characters have quests and back stories attached to them, so I think it's better to start with them

have you played the first one? i just played it earlier this year and it had enjoyable combat and character progression, but overall i was kind of underwhelmed. especially with the extremely generic and trope-filled story. i've heard the second one is way better though.

nah, this is my first DoS. the story is pretty interesting so far, but the gameplay is the appeal, for me, and I generally don't even like turn-based games.
